Aspect Ratio Explained: Choosing the Right Shape for Your AI Image

By Bee Prompts Β· July 29, 2026

Aspect ratio is one of the most overlooked settings in AI image generation, but it fundamentally changes how a scene is composed β€” not just its shape after the fact.

1:1 (Square)

The standard for product photography and Instagram feed posts. Centers the subject with balanced space on all sides β€” this is why most of our Product Photography prompts default to 1:1.

4:5 (Portrait)

Common in fashion and portrait photography, and the current sweet spot for Instagram and Pinterest β€” taller than square, giving more vertical room for a full-body shot without being as narrow as 9:16.

3:4

A slightly less tall alternative to 4:5, often used for editorial fashion and studio portraits where you want a bit more width in frame.

16:9 (Widescreen)

Landscape and environment shots, interior design, and anything cinematic. This ratio gives the AI model room to build a full scene rather than cropping in tight on a subject.

Choosing for your platform

Match the aspect ratio to where the image will actually be used β€” a 16:9 image cropped down to a square Instagram post loses most of its intended composition. Every Bee Prompts listing states its aspect ratio clearly for exactly this reason.
